- I just LOVE sweeping generalizations like this. Would you like pictures,
- model numbers, or what? For example, I have here in my office my latest
- project: a 486DX4/100 motherboard bought seperately to be used to build a
- cheap minitower system. Battery content: none. Battery socket: missing.
- Battery pins: ah, there they are! It seems the manual suggests going out
- and buying a battery pack and plugging it in here. Hmmm, interesting.
-
- If you were to QUALIFY your statement by sticking in the words "name
- brand pc clone motherboards" (is that an oxymoron?) I would be inclined
- to be less critical. However, a large part of the computing public does
- not buy name brand. They build thier own, or buy systems from "brokers"
- who did the building from components.
-
- I can verify that HP, PB, IBM, several Compaqs, and Acers have board
- mounted batteries. I can also verify a few dozen motherboard
- manufacturers that do NOT. And those are the ones that go into the
- non-brand-name systems.
-
- I probably shouldn't have said "most" (sweeping generalizations) in my
- initial paragraph. A very large portion do not. Better?
